TUESDAY, APRIL 11TH

EVENING DEDICATED TO LIONEL TERRAY

On opening night, the mountain office of the City of Grenoble welcomes its special guest, author Marcel Pérès, who will invite you to discover the life of Lionel Terray through a collection of his work, published by Glénat. The evening will pay special tribute to Terray, who is not only a local Isere climbing hero, but also an
international mountaineering icon..

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 12TH

UNIQUE VISITS OF GRENOBLE’S MUSEUMS

Guided visit of the exhibition “Pic & Bulle - the mountains in comics.”

Guided visit “Mountaineer artists: Dauphiné painters of the 19th century”. Guided tour co-led by a museum tour guide and an alpinist.

MOUNTAINEERING AND LITERATURE BOOK FAIR

• 6-8pm | Alpes Congrès

The evening will kick off with a mini-book fair in the Alpes Congrès entrance hall. Several publishing houses specialized in mountain literature will be present and
offer a variety of talks and book signings. Special guests will include Kelly Cordes, Stéphanie Bodet, Claude Gardien, Gilles Modica, Jean-Michel Asselin, Marcel Peres, Alain Ghersen, Yves Ballu, Odette Bernezat, Gilles Chappaz, Catherine Destivelle, Anselme Baud, Victor Saunders, Bernard Vaucher, Yves Peysson, John Porter, Charlie Buffet and François Carrel. Clair Obscur and Diverticimes will also present a mountain photography exhibit.
Catering by the nonprofit “la Mixture” will include a bar and local organic specialties.

CELEBRATION OF JEFF LOWE’S CLIMBING CAREER
SCREENING OF METANOIA

The legendary American alpinist Jeff Lowe will be the recipient of the 9th Piolet d’Or Walter Bonatti Lifetime Achievement Award. The evening will be hosted by the co-presidents of the Groupe de Haute Montagne (GHM), Catherine Destivelle and Christian Trommsdorff, who will be joined by storytellers and some of Jeff Lowe’s climbing partners: George Lowe (Jeff’s cousin), Thomas Huber, François Damilano, Lindsay Griffin, Claude Gardien, Kelly Cordes, John Porter, Victor Saunders, Sébastien Ratel, Sébastien Bohin. Grenoble’s first screening of the film Jeff Lowe’s Metanoia, award winner at many international film festivals. Joined
by Jeff Lowe’s companion and producer of the film, Connie Self.

INTERNATIONAL FORUM ON PROOF IN MOUNTAINEERING

• 8pm | Salle Edmond Vigne de Fontaine

An international forum on the question of proof of ascents in high-level alpinism: this debate will be held in the context of increasing professionalization in alpinism, and will feature the voices of alpinists, journalists, and historians, revisit famous controversies of the past, explore new questions and discuss potential changes to the Piolet d’Or charter. François Carrel will moderate a public debate between journalists and historians (Kelly Cordes, Jean-Jacques Prieur and Rodolph Popier), professional alpinists (Thomas Huber and Sébastien Ratel) and representatives from alpine institutions (Christian Trommsdorff - GHM, Lindsay Griffin - American Alpine Journal, and George Lowe - American Alpine Club).
At the beginning of the evening, members of the Piolet d’Or Jury will announce the winning ascents of 2016. The awards will be given during Part Two of the 2017 Piolet d’Or in November. Open to the Public.

Outside the La Grave Village Function Hall- Drive-in theater: screening of short ski films and Jeff Lowe’s Metanoia as an homage to the climbing career of Jeff
Lowe. Joined by his cousin, George Lowe and his companion, who is also the producer of this exceptional film.

MOUNTAIN ACTIVITIES IN LA GRAVE

- Glacier discovery and initiation! A half-day workshop to learn about glaciers (crevasses, seracs, climate change, etc.) and glacier travel, including a roped snowshoe
hike on the Girose Glacier.
- Glacier travel on skis. a half-day workshop aimed at teaching the techniques for travelling safely on skis across glaciated terrain (roping up, navigation and route
choice, gear choices and crevasse rescue).
35€ per person for a half-day workshop. The price includes safety equipment (harness, ropes, avalanche beacons, shovels and probes) and instruction by certified high mountain guides. The price does not include the La Grave lift ticket or rental of other equipment (backcountry ski gear or snowshoes).
